A good way to practice Value is to paint in layers, which is what we will be doing in this lesson. Since Value is the light to dark progression of color, we start the first layer with a light value, which contains more water than pigment. Then we gradually work up through the middle values (equal parts water to pigment) to the darker values, which are sometimes pure pigment.
