Winter 2018-Intermediate Watercolor Class, Session 1

Nov. 7, 14, 28, Dec. 5, 2018. Participants should have basic watercolor skills and should bring their own materials; a list of suggested materials is listed on this website.

Session 1 features paintings from my 2018 Maine Sketchbook
What makes a good painting? The ingredients are: line, size, shape, direction, texture, color, and value. Remember, ONE of these is Value. Emphasize one or two of these DESIGN PRINCIPLES: Unity, Balance, Harmony, Dominance, Conflict, Repetition, Variation, Gradation and your painting gets interesting.  Lesson 2  on Nov. 14, 2018 will be devoted to adding at least 3 value to the objects and/or shapes in your paintings using a simple color scheme.

Class format consists of a watercolor painting demonstration by the instructor during the morning and again after lunch, then the class paints with individual help from Julie. A critique of the class work follows at the end of the day.
