I photographed these elephants cooling off in the Chobe River in Chobe National Park, Botswana. The baboons were also enjoying the river bank so I painted one in after I took the photo of the painting.
Whenever elephants sense danger, they form a circle around the babies, raise their heads, open their ears and get ready to defend. The small baby elephant fits under the largest female quite nicely so she can keep it safe. The sun was setting and the elephants were bathed in golden, glowing light.
